Water Behind Walls

Most modern homes and buildings use drywall as the default interior wall material.  While it is a great product for creating walls, it doesn't stand up to water very well.  It's important to remove all water and moisture from drywall in order to avoid mold and mildew from forming.

What we do during Extraction

First, we diagnose the water.  Is it clean or dirty?  Meaning, is it from a washing machine or dishwasher hose, a burst pipe, rain water through the roof?  Or, is it sewage water or even ground water that has come through a contaminated area?  The main thing is that it needs to be stopped.

Once the source is stopped, Extraction is the next step.  Despite the fact that Extraction is often the fastest step to complete, your flood situation is not finished until all the Drying is also compete.  We use powerful, truck mounted vacuums and pumps to manually extract as much water as we can before we start Drying.  That said, if the extraction isn't done to the fullest extent, the overall drying step will take longer and a secondary problem - mold, may have time to take hold.  That's why we pride ourselves in responding and extracting quickly.

The next concern is how far did the flood water penetrate to places we want to keep dry.  These areas include walls, ceilings, the gap between the foundation slab and the flooring, etc.  In these situations, the water damage will no longer be visible to the eye.  We use moisture meters to uncover the extent of penetration.  Again, it's critical that we leave no water or moisture or mold could begin to grow.

If there are flood soaked carpets, the underlay will also require drying as soon as the extraction procedure is complete.  This could substantially increase overall drying time and in certain conditions, underlay might be un-salvageable.  If we see that this will be the case, we'll tell you up front.
